Age 90, of Antigonish and Philips Harbour, Guysborough County passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017, with his family by his side. Born in Halfway Cove, Guysborough County, he was the eldest son of 17 children born to the late Clarence and Minnie (Delaney) Bond. Garland was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle and friend. Garland is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Armsworthy) Bond; sons; Gary (Queenie), Kingston, NS; Alan (Glenda), Antigonish; Mark (Lorraine), Antigonish; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (Claire), Antigonish; Percy (Joy), Mulgrave; Gordon (Myrtle), Frankville; Garfield and Lloyd, Halfway Cove; sisters, Helen Cresine, Boylston; Verna Ritchey, Eastern Passage; Rita Hansen, Dartmouth; Bernice Bond, Antigonish; Eileen (Pete) Woolridge, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Heather Cameron; brothers, Wesley, Aubrey, Donald and John "Arnie"; sisters, Marguerite and Marie. Garland was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Queensport. Garland worked at different jobs until the early 50’s when he started working at Acadia Fisheries, Mulgrave, where he became foreman of machine maintenance. In 1968, after moving back to Philips Harbour, he worked for Acadia Fisheries, H. B. Nickerson & National Sea Products in Canso until he retired in 1990. After Garland retired he enjoyed sport fishing, gardening and was always ready for a game of cards with family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday, July 13 from 5 – 9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 14 at 11 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Queensport with Reverend Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. Family flowers only.
