Gladys Francelia Burke December 15, 1931 to December 27, 2021 Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Gladys Francelia Burke of St. Peter’s, passed away peacefully on December 27th 2021 surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 90, at her home in the Richmond Villa. Born on December 15, 1931 in French Cove, Gladys was the daughter of Joseph and Alma (Richard) Sampson. She worked for numerous years with Peggy Adams at the telephone office, which was the source of many stories she loved to tell. She worked various other jobs; at the Claridge with her father, the Cozy Corner and the Richmond Villa. In her retirement years, Nanny B was the proud caretaker for two of her grandchildren; spending many days gallivanting around town with her many close friends, and grandkids in tow. Throughout her life time, Gladys was a very active member of her community. As a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, she dedicated much of her time to the St. Peter’s Parish Altar Society. She went on to be the founder of the St. Peter’s Food Bank. This would not have been possible without the helping hands of, Melinda Fougere and Eva Owens. Her legacy and quest to ending hunger, bringing joy, respect and quality of life to those around her will live on for years to come through the dedicated "Gladys Burke Room". Although she would have never stated so herself, Gladys was a published author having written the One Hundred Years of Faith and Growth of the St. Peter’s Parish. On August 8th, 1975, she married Francis Burke of Sampsonville where they blended their families. Mom is survived by her two sons, Darin (Dawn) Sampson of Barrie, ON and Blaise (Debbie) Sampson of Sampsonville. Four grandchildren, Wayne, Brittany (Jordan) of Sampsonville and Courtney, Ethan, of Barrie, ON. Sister: Winnie (Ignatius) Burke, of French Cove. Brother: Linus (Vi) Sampson, of St. Peter’s. Sister-in-law Yvonne Sampson, of St. Peter’s. Five stepchildren Tony, Paul (Claire), Gloria, Jeannie, Sheila (Billy), 16 step grandchildren, 23 step great grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews and close friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Francis Burke, sister Mathilda (Toupie) and husband Leonard Leblanc, brother Cedric Sampson, step mother Annie Kelly and step sister Pat Plett. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Richmond Villa for their care and compassion over the past 6 years. Cremation has taken place.
