Obituary
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Keating, Edward James "Ed" - Age 78 of Canso, Guysborough Co. Ed was awarded his wings and soared to Heaven after he was released from his battle with Dementia on Sunday, August 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family friends and compassionate care givers in the Seaside Manor, Canso.
Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Kingston and Rena Mae (MacKenzie) Keating. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd and Delbert "Sonny" Keating; sister, Dorothy "Dot" MacLean.
Edward was a caring, affectionate and giving man whose world revolved around his family. He was gentle loyal and always trying to help people. Ed had several employment positions that he had taken great pride in, he worked for Veteran Affairs, Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax; Fisheries Officer with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. He was a gunsmith and had a huge amount of pride for his gun shop; he was also a skilled diver. His hobbies included, going for drives and visiting friends, going in the boat, cooking, playing crib with his buddies (and according to him he always won). He travelled the world and even survived a shark attack in the Grand Cayman Islands. Ed enjoyed making homemade beer and wine for his buddies and I’m sure they’d all agree that it had a good kick. Ed enjoyed making beautiful jewellery as well. His beautiful smile and big brown eyes will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a sense of humor like no other and many were victims of silly pranks he played. They can now hold these funny memories dear and cherish them. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Rena Keating, Canso; his smart and loving son, Roger, Stellarton; his cherished and greatly loved grandchildren, Darrien (Byron), Shara Mae and Isaiah James Keating; and his special little great-granddaughter, Scotia Mae Christina Keating; brother, John (Heather) Keating, Halifax; beloved sister, Maureen (George) McKelvie, Halifax; first cousin and special friends, Philip and Paula MacKenzie; special friend, Mike Doyle, Guysborough; many cousins, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; special uncles Clyde and Ernie MacKenzie.

To Dr. John Sullivan, his doctor and friend; and Rhonda Bennett from Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso; Rev’s David and Betty Wheeler for the prayers and words of comfort, to all of you, your support and love meant so much and never will be forgotten.
