Obituary
Please share a memory of Ardina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
VAN DEN HEUVEL, Ardina – Age 102, Whycocomagh. With gratitude for a long and happy life, our family announces the death of our beautiful mother, Ardina Wilhelmina (Selten) van den Heuvel, affectionately known as Moeke; she was everybody’s Moeke. Our Mom went to her eternal home on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017.
Ardina is survived by her sister Wilhelmina Raaymakers, Holland; and children Josie (Joe) Peeters, Brook Village; Denny (Mary) van den Heuvel, Springfield; John (Hilde) van den Heuvel, Springfield; Corry van den Heuvel, Brook Village; Cathy (Colie) Campbell, Brook Village; Nelly Munro, Whycocomagh; and Garry (Janie) van den Heuvel, Brook Village. Ardina is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren who have all been blessed by the great love she had for them. Ardina was predeceased by her parents, Johannes and Catharina (Verstegen) Selten; her husband, William van den Heuvel and their infant daughter Catharina van den Heuvel; her sister, Nelly Selten; her brothers, Jo and Coos Selten; her son-in-law Graham Munro; and her daughter–in-law Shirlene (Mac Kinnon) van den Heuvel.
Ardina was born in Langenboom, Holland, on December 13th, 1914. She grew up in her beloved Holland and was one of five children. Ardina married William van den Heuvel in 1947 and together they had eight children. With the intent of providing a farm for their children, if they so desired, they moved to Antigonish County, Nova Scotia in 1953.
Ardina was everything good; a devoted wife, a most loving mother, a storybook grandmother and treasured great-grandmother. She taught us that the bond that makes a true family is to love one another, respect each other and find joy in each other’s lives. In her autumn years, Ardina’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless joy giving her reason to go on living.
Just as she lived her life, gently, peacefully and with great dignity, our Moeke left this world surrounded by love. Putting our faith in God to grant her eternal peace, we her children, will honour her memory by following her example of kindness, honesty, love of neighbour and her love of God.
Ardina’s family will be receiving friends at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh, on Sunday, December 10th, 2017 from 2 – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. John the Baptist Church, Brook Village, on Monday, December 11th, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Father Bernie Mac Donald officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brook Village. Memorial donations in memory of Ardina can be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care, Baddeck Continuing Care or St. John the Baptist Cemetery Fund.
