CUNNINGHAM, Helen Bernice – Age 88, Havendale, Guysborough Co,. On Friday, December 8, 2017, God called one of his angels home and what an angel she was! Born on June 9, 1929, in Havendale, she was a daughter of the late Gregory and Leona (Cunningham) Cunningham, the second oldest of 16 children. She passed away suddenly at her home in Havendale. In her younger years, she worked at McCarron’s Restaurant, New Glasgow, St. F.X. University, as well as housekeeping and babysitting for many families in Halifax and locally. She enjoyed baking for family and always gave to those less fortunate. Her teapot was always on and she loved company. Her kind heart and compassion for others will be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She always saw the good in everyone and in every situation. Having suffered from mental illness much of her life, she accepted it as part of God’s plan. In spite of it all, she was blessed with good wit and a sense of humour and never complained to anyone of her struggles. She enjoyed picking berries, going for walks, swimming in the river and writing poetry, which was so meaningful and well written. Above all, she loved to spend time with family, especially her nieces and nephews whom she loved. A woman of deep faith, Helen was faithful to pray the rosary daily. Many would call her asking for prayers. Everyone who entered her home never left without her warm hugs. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Guysborough Intervale. An awesome big sister to her siblings, who thought the world of her, she is survived by, Evelyn Chisholm, New Glasgow; Marion (Jackie) Shea, Lesterdale; Joseph (Donna), Hammonds Plains; Dorothy Gingras, Havendale; James (Dolly), Lower Sackville; Florence (Cecil) Titus, Fall River; Frances, Havendale; Kay (Joseph) Chisholm, Havendale; Lee (Robert) Hamersma, Lesterdale; Austin (Kelly), Smithville, ON; Jeannie (John) Chubb, Edmonton, AB; Bernadette (Tommy) Long, Lesterdale; foster sister and brother, Marie (Ari) Ruitenberg, Sussex, NB; James Dobson, Havendale.
