Waters, Christena Elizabeth "Tena", R.N. age 79 of Blues Mills, Inverness Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who passed away in Inverary Manor on Friday, December 8, 2017. Tena was a daughter of the late Russell and Maude (Rouse) Matthews. She was born in Timmons, Ontario on October 6, 1938. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Albert "Abbie" and sisters, Geraldine MacFadyen, Florence Eillis; brothers, William "Billy", and Earl; brother-in-law, Winston "Butch" and sisters-in-law, Juanita Matthews and Mae Matthews. Tena is survived by her son, Douglas; grandson, Brett; brothers, John (Sadie), Gerald (Eileen) and Calvin (Glenda) Matthews. She is also survived by her special niece, Phyllis (Allan) Matheson who was like a daughter to her; sisters-in-law, Marylee (Bobby) Morrison and Francis Waters; aunts, Flo Hare and Margaret Costa. She was a member of Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh, Blues Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Dr. Gordon MacLeod Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Tena graduated from Sydney City Hospital in 1959 where she worked two years before moving to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for many years, except for working a few years at Strait Richmond Hospital, then she returned to ICMH out patients dept from which she retired. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could turn her hand to anything and do an excellent job. Tena was always on call for emergencies in the community and beyond. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, from 2-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 11 a.m. in Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Rachel Campbell officiating. Burial following in Stewartdale Cemetery, Whycocomagh. Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada or Stewartdale Cemetery.
