MARCHAND, Narcisse Joseph (Bernie), Age 84 of Louisdale, Richmond County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Born in Louisdale, he was the son of the late Ernest and Melvina (Landry) Marchand.
In his early years he was employed by Nova Scotia Forest Industries in Point Tupper as a welder. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many hours on the Margaree River fishing salmon. Narcisse enjoyed dancing, volunteering, visiting friends but most importantly, he loved being around family. He was often found hunting, fishing or playing cards often accompanied by his grandson Cody. He was a Charter member of the Louisdale Lion’s Club and actively involved in parish duties of the St. Louis Parish. Narcisse was a pillar of the community, and could be seen at most events. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the community at large.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce (Fisher), three children, Tammy, Louisdale, Mark (Sherry), Louisdale, and Paula (Jamie), Greenwood, eight grandchildren, Jaimie, Joel, Cody, Jordan, Haley, Kelsey, Dylan and Jennifer, step-grandchildren Justin and Stephanie, siblings Loretta, Lucy (Francis), Henry (Donna), Doris, Evelyn (James), brother-in-law Lawrence, Reg (Carolyn), sisters-in-law Elsie, Noreen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Melvin and Delore, sister Esther, parents-in-law Amelia Elizabeth (Sharp), Earl Herald Fisher, brothers-in-law Gerald, Vernon, Leo, Clyde, Tommy, Howard, Edgar, sisters-in-law Kay, Alice, Kathleen.
Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale on Friday, February 2 from 2-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3 from St. Louis Church in Louisdale with Father Joe MacKenzie officiating. Thanks to Dr. Bob Martel and the palliative care team. Special mention to nieces Sharon, Chrissy and Tracy for their loving care and supportive during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or Strait Richmond Healthcare Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury.
