It is with saddened hearts that we regret to announce the death of Dr. Joseph Royden Trainor, DDS of Port Hawkesbury. Born May 31, 1930, in Saint John, New Brunswick. He passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Predeceased by parents, Dr. John Clifford Trainor and Ada Anthony (Foley) Trainor. Royden is survived by his beloved spouse of 59 years, Mary H. (MacDonald) Trainor, Port Hawkesbury; he is also survived by children, Dr Patty Greencorn (Ian), Maureen, Royden (Peter), Brian, Michael (Jane), Madonna (Eugene), Robert. Royden is also survived by grandchildren, Michael, Marc, Daniel, David and Therese Greencorn; John and Kelley Trainor. He was predeceased by infant son, John Clifford Trainor; sister, Marcia Trainor and brothers, James Patrick and John Clifford Trainor.
Royden graduated from St F.X. University in 1952 with a BSc and Dalhousie University Dental School in 1956 DDS. Dr Trainor served Port Hawkesbury and surrounding area for 42 years as a family dentist until his retirement in 1997.
Royden was a lifelong recognized and dedicated community leader and most of all, and of which he was most proud, a devoted family man including his unconditional love for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the love of his life Mary. Royden was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice and in particular the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or St. Joseph Parish Cemetery Fund.
Royden’s family would like express our heartfelt gratitude to the EMT’s, Strait Richmond Hospital Emergency, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital ICU, Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s CCU and An Cala Palliative Care Unit for their professional, compassionate care.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Friday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
