Bernard, Noel Andrew - aka "Chief" - Age 59 years of We’koqma’q First Nation. Passed away in the QE ll Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Noel was born on March 5, 1959 to the late Jacob and Bertha (Googoo) Bernard. He is also predeceased by his foster mother, Bridget Deny (Eskasoni). Noel "Chief" was, a great entrepreneur, making wreaths out of pine cones, flowers and driftwood. He was a landscaper who took pride in yards, gardening and flowers. Noel "Chief" was a kind man, friend, brother, uncle, granduncle and godfather. He was a baseball player, coach, businessman, and avid "Habs" fan and crib player. When not found watching his team, he could be found fishing in all seasons. Summer months he would camp in Malikomish. He loved to spend time with his dog and grandchildren. Noel is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Rena; sisters, Mary (Joe Johnson) and Jessie Francis (Joey Young) all of Eskasoni; brothers, Martin Bernard, We’koqma’q; Bertram (Annette) Bernard, Eskasoni; grandchildren, Gabe Rendell, Parker MacKenzie and Devon M.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, godchildren, Daisy, Alichia (Was), Marijenna, Sondra, Ker, Charles and Lucas. . He is also survived by his foster father, Levi Deny, Eskasoni. Noel was predeceased by his stepson, Darrel K.M.; sister, Cecilia Mae Bernard; brother, Donald Bernard. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, August 20 at the family residence, 9079 Hwy 105 We’koqma’q First Nation. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 from Blessed St. Katari Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q with Father MacDonald Ibeth officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
