MacKENZIE, Duncan "Ivan" – Age 76, Lime Hill, Inverness Co., passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Duncan John and Johanna Jessie (MacLean) MacKenzie. His love of the outdoors was evident at a young age; as a teen he guided American hunters in the Cape Breton Highlands. Ivan was a graduate of the Maritime Forestry School. That led to a position at Nova Scotia Forest Industries in their Woodlands Department building roads. As a small business owner he owned and operated MacKenzie Brothers Construction for close to fifty years. He was a long time horse owner and supporter of Harness Racing in the Maritimes. He was past President of the Canadian Morgan Horse Association. In 2014 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Snowmobile Association of Nova Scotia. He was a life time member of West Bay United Church serving in many capacities and committees including Clerk of Session. He was a major supporter of many local initiatives. He was a member of Sircom Lodge 66, Whycocomagh. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Vickie (Jolly); daughters, Arlene MacKenzie (Wayne Jarvis), Red Deer, AB; Melissa MacKenzie(Dave Brooker), Hampton, NB; sister, Beverley Leonard, West Bay; brothers, Wayne, West Bay Road; Steven (Joan), Fredericton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Sheldon and Kenneth; brother-in-law, Lawrence Leonard. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Monday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from West Bay United Church with Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in Lime Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to West Bay United Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
