MacKay, Donald Ivan "Donnie" – Age 69 years of St. George’s Channel, Richmond Co. It is with great sadness and deep regrets that we announce the passing of Donald Ivan "Donnie" MacKay on Tuesday, February 5 , 2019 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston Surrounded by His Family. Born in Arichat on March 30, 1949 he was a son of the late William Daniel "Willie" and Jessie Christine (MacDonald) MacKay. Donnie was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for 50 years. He loved to saw wood at His Mill, hunt, play cards, and drive around visiting everyone; he especially liked to sit on the veranda whittling at wood doing folk art. He was well known for his smile and loved by many people. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne (LaFosse); daughters, Jennie and Cindy MacKay; son, Robert (Pam); grandchildren, River MacKay and Jennifer Law; great-grandchildren, Bryce and MacKenzie; sister, Valerie (Barry) George; and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Donnie is predeceased by his brother, Gary MacKay, sister, Christine MacKillop and brother-in-law, Ronald MacKillop, mother and father-in-law, George and Ruby (Snow) LaFosse and many aunts and uncles. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9 from Black River United Church, Black Riverwith Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial at a later date in MacKay Cemetery, St. George's Channel. A time of fellowship will follow in St. Georges' Channel Hall. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Donnie to the MacKay Cemetery Fund, St. George’s Channel or Black River United Church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home and the Dr’s and nurses of Strait Richmond Hospital for the care that was given to Donnie.
