Shears, Dorothy Rose – age 93 of Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home formerly of Hureauville and Halifax with ties to Newfoundland, passed away peacefully at the Nursing Home on Sunday, March 10, 2019 with family by her side. Dorothy was active in the St. Marks United Church congregation. Dorothy loved her long walks, participating in the SAERC Pool Swim Exercise Class program and was also an avid bowler. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Paul Shears, Hureauville; granddaughter, Sheri Shears, Fort McMurray, AB; sister, Gladys Jeffery, Toronto, ON; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Capt. Douglas Shears and her parents, Tobias and Sarah Purchase. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury with Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial in Grantville Cemetery.
