CAMPBELL, Blair Anderson―1945-2019: It is with deep regret that we announce that Blair passed away suddenly in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish surrounded by family on Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was 73 years-old. A member of a large Cape Breton family, he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Bernice, and children: Darren of St. Peter’s, N.S. (Dawn Ostrem), Brian of Penticton, B.C. and Lena Aho (Mikael Aho) of Uppsala, Sweden and grandchildren Olivia Campbell of St. Peter’s and Matilda and Nora Aho of Uppsala, Sweden. He is also survived by his mother, Agnes Campbell, of St. Peter’s; brothers Lloyd (Estelle), Rothesay, N.B.; Danny (Beverly Lafford), St. Peter’s; Terrance (Elaine Fougere), Halifax; David (Deborah Morrison Leigh), St. Peter’s; Billy (Erin Conway) Port Elgin, Ont. and Leo (Liz Campbell), St. Peter’s; sisters Eleanor Samson (Roy Samson), Louisdale, N.S.; Cynthia (Lloyd Burke), St. Peter’s, and Susan (Doug MacKenzie), Halifax. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Dan Campbell. Blair’s was a life well lived. He was a loving and devoted son, sibling, husband, father, and grandfather and a rock of stability within the family, who could be counted on to provide help and wise advice to friends and family. He was very active in the local Catholic Church, serving on the St. Peter’s Parish Council for many years, as well as being a valued member of the Richmond Villa’s board of directors. He possessed a dry sense of humour―a trait that courses through the veins of the Campbell family. He enjoyed playing cards, particularly beating anyone at crib, a cold beer with friends and family, and vacationing with Bernice in sun-soaked locales like Cuba and Florida. He was also a life-long Montreal Canadiens fan who watched the Habs hoist numerous Stanley Cups―although not so many in recent years. The family would like to thank the staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish, as well as the paramedics with Emergency Health Services, for the care and compassion they showed Blair and the family during this time. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Visitation will take place in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in St. Peter’s on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. Donations in Blair’s memory can be made to the Richmond Villa, the St. Peter’s Food Bank, or both.
