MacCALDER, Christena Mary – Age 92, Orangedale, Inverness Co., passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late John Dan and Breadahlane Isabelle (MacDonald) MacKinnon.
As a young adult Christena worked as a housekeeper prior to her marriage. For much of her life she was a homemaker, raising her family, while also working at the Post Office part-time. She was a member of the Orangedale Presbyterian Church, where she later became an Elder and served as Clerk of Session until the loss of her eyesight. She was a life member of the Atlantic Mission Society, a member of the Women’s Mission Society, Orangedale Home and School and the Orangedale Improvement Association. Christena was an extraordinary soul who touched many lives. Her kindness was immeasurable, she gave endlessly without regard and she lived and loved with powerful dignity. Truly, a great sage of our time. Christena’s family was her pride and joy. Her love and commitment to them and her community was admirable. She defined servant leadership and what it is to be a member of a community. A few of Christena’s great joys in life were knitting and baking for her loved ones.
