Carter, Daniel Clifford "Ciffie" of Sampsonville, Richmond Co. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel Clifford "Ciffie" Carter of Sampsonville, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family & friends at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Born on February 3, 1936; he was a son of the late Clifford and Elizabeth (Sampson) Carter. Ciffie worked as a boilermaker and was a well respected member of Local 73 until he retired at the age of 60. He was an avid hockey player for many years and still skated whenever there was ice on the Bras D’Or Lake. He loved boating, hunting, fishing and spending days at the cabin. He was known by many for his love of playing music, especially the fiddle. His musical talents brought him too many benefits, concerts, jam sessions and house parties where he will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Carter (Landry); children, Melissa (Billy), Ricky (Michelle), Cathy (Gary) and Lauriann (Carl); grandchildren, Michael (Kayla), CJ (Taylor), Jessica (Craig), Justine, Carter, Lindsay and Connor; great-granddaughters, Quinn, Mya, Ophelia & Ellison; his siblings, Bertha, Lin and Melinda; his nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Anthony, George, Charlie, Marie, Lida, Robert, Beatrice, Mary, and Fin. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Ciffie will be held from 2-9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St, St. Peter’s. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January, 22 from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s with Father John Yake officiating. Burial at a later date. The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Hanspal at the Strait Richmond Hospital as well as the doctors and staff of the ICU at Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Memorial donations can be made to Autism Nova Scotia – Strait Area Chapter, CNIB or the Cape Breton SPCA.
