Obituary
Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lawrence, Samuel - Age 75, Canso. It is with an aching but loving heart that we let our darling Sam return to his heavenly home. Sam was born in Harbour Breton, Nfld., grew up in St. Jacques and made his way to Canso as a young man to work with his father, Simeon Lawrence.
Sam battled with cancer for three and a half years. He passed peacefully with his family on the evening of June 13, 2020. Sam is fondly remembered in the community. He was friendly, had a bright smile, and would have a good chat with everyone in town. Sam was a red seal as a machinist and millwright. He owned his own machine shop in Canso for many years. In his 50s, Sam went back to school and became a 2nd class marine engineer. His career as a marine engineer allowed him to travel and do what he loved, running and fixing heavy machinery. His passions were tinkering with mechanics, cars and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Sheila (MacKinnon); sons, Christopher, Whitehead and Brent, Queensport. He adored and was so very proud of his grandchildren, Sarah Lumsden, Rayden Lawrence. Also survived by sister, Jane Lawrence, brother, Merrill and Lilly. Sam was a loving husband and father. Predeceased by his father, Simeon of Baie Du Loui Island, Nfld. and his mother, Gladys (Strowbridge) of Red Cove, Nfld. and brother, Lloyd
Sam has been cremated and his ashes will be interred at a later date. Donations in Sam’s memory may be made to All Saint’s Anglican Church, c/o Susan O’Handley P.O B0X 355, Canso N.S. B0H 1HO.
