MacDONALD, Catherine Rita "Cathy" – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine "Cathy" Rita MacDonald of Port Hawkesbury, age 56 on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. She was a daughter of the late John Duncan and Catherine Theresa MacDonald. Cathy was employed with Strait Engineering, Port Hawkesbury for the past 35 years. Cathy loved spending time with her family, as well spending time outdoors whether it was fishing, golfing, skiing, boating, curling, playing crib and cheering on the Boston Bruins. She was very active in the parish, especially the graveyard committee. She is survived by siblings, Johnny (Dianne), MacDonald, Petit de Grat; Anna MacDonald (Paul Williams), Beaver Bank; Janie (David) MacMillan, Long Point; JD (Ginette) MacDonald, Stoney Creek, ON; Brian (Brenda) MacDonald, St. George, ON; Elizabeth (Dwayne) Cappelle, Cochrane, AB; Debbie (Roddie) MacIsaac, Kelowna, BC; Johanna (Basil) Graham, Judique; as well as several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by niece, Mary Theresa Graham; nephew, Blake MacMillan. Cathy’s family would like to express sincere thanks to the following for their care and support, the doctors and nurses of St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, QEII Halifax, Dr. Pluta and continuing care nurses. Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury on Sunday, July 19 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A private family funeral service will take place on Monday, July 20 with Father Conrad Edwards and Deacon Berkeley Guthro officiating. A public burial will follow in Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, Creignish at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cathy’s memory can be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, St.Joseph Parish Cemetery Fund, Port Hawkesbury or to Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, Creignish.
