I work at the Rainy River mine as did Sheldon. We often caught the same flights to and from NS, and buses to work from camp. I ate many meals with him at camp. I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing upon my return to work this hitch. He spoke of his family many times to me. I think of him daily now, and pass on my sincere condolences to his family.

There are no words to express how devastating the loss of these two wonderful people is. I'm one of Sheldons cousins from Toronto. As a child I spent time every summer in Cape Breton always spending lots of time with my very friendly and engaging cousin Sheldon. As a young adult he visited me in Toronto. I will always remember how I took him to a work party I felt obliged to attend and then couldn't get him to leave. He had met so many new friends all of which were older nuns and priests. He certainly was friendly and had a wonderful way with people! When I met Cathy it was like I had always known her. She was so kind and warm. Together they were one of the nicest couples I had ever met. They were so proud of their children and thrilled to be grandparents. Life certainly is anything but fair. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their children, Cathy's parents, brothers, sisters and other close family and friends. Their loss is unimaginable. I hope that together the support they can give each other can help ease some of the pain and tough times ahead. Xoxo

We are shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden and tragic loss of Sheldon and Cathy. We did not have the pleasure of knowing Sheldon, but knew Cathy through Ralph's Dairy and RBC. I can't really think of the words to say how sorry I am for your loss. Growing up Cathy and Sheldon were always there and a part of the community, from passing them in the arena, to working for them at Ralph's.
