Hazel Marie McNamara

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our wife and mother, Hazel McNamara on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.

Born on May 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Mary Evelyn (MacIsaac) Cass. She was pre-deceased by son, James O’Connell McNamara, sisters, Louise Swan and Margaret (Peggy) MacInnis, brother James Alexander Cass and great grand-daughter Ella Jade Boudreau.

She is survived by Fred, her husband of 69 years and children, Don (Sherry Harrison) Courtney, BC, Brenda (Dan Swansburg) Bridgewater, NS, Patsy (Jim Twast), Newtown, NS, Michelle (Winston MacNamara), Whiteside, NS, Tom (Cathy McNamara), Hureauville, NS, Liz (Betty) Girard, Port Hawkesbury, NS and Mike (Lynn McNamara), Truro, NS as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Anne Fitzgerald (Langley, BC) and Dorothy Hill (Port Greville, NS)

Hazel’s career was involved in sales as an employee for many years with Woolco Dept. store in Port Hawkesbury, NS. In her later years, she enjoyed the summer home on Judique Shore Road where she always remarked that the people there were her second family.

She was also a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43.

Her husband Fred and family would like to thank the wonderful medical team at Strait Richmond Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during her illness.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from2.00 -4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Fr. Conrad Edwards and Deacon Berkley Guthro officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
