Charles Wilfred Ashe - 87, Monastery, went home to glory on Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Rear Monastery, he was a son of the late Patrick James and Rebecca (Ash) Ash. Charlie worked in the lumber industry and was a school driver for the Guysborough School Board for many years. Charlie was a faithful and dedicated and active member of Tracadie United Baptist Church, and served as a choir and Brotherhood member for more than 30 years. He held office as Trustee of the Church for many years and he also took responsibility of caring for the church, graveyard and manse. Charlie was a member of Eastern Light Masonic Lodge No.72, Guysborough and held positions as Tyler, junior deacon and senior and junior warden and also Master of the Lodge. Charlie was also a recipient of the Provincial Volunteer Award, Foster Parent Award, Laymen’s Council, and numerous other awards. Charlie was a faithful servant of the Lord. Charlie loved his family and he loved to tease his friends and family. He is survived by daughter, Linda Izzard, Halifax; chosen daughters, Lillian Desmond, Upper Big Tracadie; Dianne (Leo) Izzard, New Glasgow; chosen sons, William Skinner, Toronto; Wilfred (Lorraine) Reddick, Antigonish; Douglas (Gail) Jones, Antigonish; Robert Desmond, Halifax; sisters, Evelyn Girard and Alberta Izzard, Rear Monastery; brothers, James Ash, Antigonish; Kevin MacDougall, Monastery; Robert Joshua, London, ON; special nephew, Barry Daye; special grandson, Brian "BJ" Daye; special great-grandson, Jonathan Ash; special cousin, John Paris and numerous foster children and god-children; very special friend, Deacon Alonzo Reddick and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Brian Daye and wife, Hattie Eugene (Skinner) (Daye) Ashe and chosen daughter, Norma Ashe, (Monastery); chosen son, Alexander Jones; sisters, Sarah Jane, Shirley, Bertha, in infancy and Dorothy; brother, Leonard; stepmother, Effie Desmond Lawrence. Special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Glen Haven Manor for going the extra step in keeping Charlie entertained and comfortable. Visitation will be held in the Family residence 255 Highway 16, Monastery, on Wednesday, September 7 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, September 8, at 2 – 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. and there will be a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held in Tracadie United Baptist Church, Friday at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Pauline Coffin officiating. Burial to follow in Sunnyview Cemetery. A repast will follow in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Tracadie United Baptist Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
