Anna Marie Farrell Obituary

It is with both sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Anna Marie (Prosper) Farrell on July 24, 2022 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. She left this world with family at her side, finally able to greet her loved ones with all the words that were lost to her in her last years. Born in Inverness on March 19, 1948, she leaves behind her soulmate Gerard, married since 1976. They raised three children and were blessed with seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Anna was famous for her strawberry pies and jam, and could often be seen during the month of June picking wild strawberries anywhere from Glendale to Baddeck and everywhere in between. There was strangely always company at the house in the months of June and July, when fresh pies, jam and homemade biscuits were sure to be served. When she suffered a stroke in 2018, Gerard could often be found taking her place among the strawberry patches, bringing a smile to her face with a freshly picked container. Anna loved working, and for many years traveled all the way to Sydney for her job with the Native Council of Nova Scotia before settling in to work with the band office in We’koqma’q where she worked right up until March of 2018. She was of strong Catholic faith, and could be found on Sundays at the back of the church with a purse full of lollipops and the children who so loved being in her company. Anna is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gerard; daughters Ronda (Joe) and April (Chris) and son, Terry (Candice); grandchildren Meadow, Gaea, Joseph, Deliah, Rebbeca, Drake and Sophie as well as great granddaughter Gigi, and sisters Elizabeth "Betty" Googoo, Brenda Prosper and Muriel Knockwood Prosper. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph Noel and Mary Susan Prosper as well as stepmother Martha Prosper; brothers Howard and John Prosper, sisters Josephine, Muriel, Sandra, and Jean.

She resided at Mawi Ta’Mk in We’koqma’q since late 2018, enjoying many cups of tea with her friend Roddie. Although she was a full time resident, she could often be found running the roads with Gerard, always happy to be at his side touring all over Cape Breton and going wherever the wind took them. We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Mawi Ta’Mk for treating her with such care during her time there, especially Kendra who joined Gerard and April in her last moments, treating her with all the love and respect she showed her in the time she knew her. Thank you also to the staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital who cared for her during her numerous stays, as well as the staff of the Theresa Cremo Memorial Clinic. A special thank you to the years of wonderful service that Anna and Gerard received at Charlene’s Bayside Restaurant, who always made sure to make them both feel loved and special each time they visited.
