Leah Mary Gosbee
90 Years Young
Eastern Passage, Halifax Co., NS
It is with sadness and broken hearts that we, her children, Edward (Janice), Henrietta Dort (Leroy), Howard (Joan), Edith (Allan), kissed our mother goodbye for the last time on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.
Mom was born in the small community of Pleasant Harbour along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. On December 4th, 1931, she was born the daughter of Esson Robert Hilchie and Elva Amina Pearl Hilchie (Clattenburg).
Mom attended Pleasant Harbour School with the other community children, walked to church every Sunday with her dad, and later, worked at the local store in Murphy Cove. Mom grew up and lived in Pleasant Harbour until she met William "Bill" Gosbee, the man she loved with all her heart. They married and spent their life together, until he suddenly passed away September 17th, 1989. She missed him every day.
Mom is now in Heaven, reunited with the family that went before her. Her mom and dad, Elva and Esson, together with her brothers, Avon (Mary), Foster (Betty), Robert (Millie); her sisters, Doris Hilchie, Eva Mason (Cavell), Ruby Gosbee (Victor), Irma Hilchie and Edith Hilchie. Mom's siblings that remain here and will miss her terribly is her brother, Ronald Hilchie (Gloria); together with her sisters, Hazel Butler (Osborne), Betty Gallant (Ellis) and Shirley Walton (Doug); her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be lost without Nanna's/Nannie's hugs and kisses. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Cathy Naugle, considered as mom's adopted daughter by referring to mom as Momma, will miss her dearly.
Our mom was thoughtful and kind; strong and courageous. Her laughter was large and loud. Her blue eyes would light up a room. Her sense of humor was " catching" and you couldn't help laughing when she was in the room. Mom believed laughter is the best medicine. Mom enjoyed knitting, making tiny baby hats and mittens for the IWK in Halifax. Mom also loved to play cards, paint scenery and other art work and could sew anything. Our mom appreciated all types of flowers but her favorites were daisies and asters.
Mom was small in stature, but big in heart. No one believed she was 90 years young because she became more beautiful every day.
We will honor our mother with a celebration of her life on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from St. Peter's Anglican Church, Murphy's Cove.when flowers bloom, the breeze is warm and the birds sing. She will rest easy with her mom and dad and sister. Date, time and location to be announced later. Mom would appreciate any donations be made to a Nova Scotia Food Bank of your choice.
