NICKERSON, Valerie Dawn - Age 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Valerie was born in Canso on October 27, 1958. She was predeceased by her mother, Jean Dorothy Boudreau and her father, Harry James Boudreau.

Valerie was known for her sense of humour and her love of animals. She also proudly worked at the Fish Plant in Canso from the time she was 16 years old until it closed and made many friends along the way.

Valerie is survived by her daughter, Melissa Porter and grandson, Oliver of Halifax. She is also survived by her brothers, Shawn Boudreau (Jodie Boudreau), Harry Boudreau and Kirk Boudreau (Jeanetta Boudreau) as well as her nieces and nephews, Julia Boudreau, Kirk James Boudreau, Kamryn Boudreau, Jared Boudreau and her great-nephew, Stefan Johnson.

Valerie's family would like to sincerely thank the Doctors, Nurses and CCA's for their kind and compassionate care at the Milford Haven Nursing Home and the Doctors and Nurses in the ICU unit of St. Martha's Hospital also for their extraordinary kindness and compassion in Valerie's final days.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 2-6 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. A graveside service will take place on Sunday, September 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
