Douglas Howard Rattray Obituary

On August 23rd, after lengthy illness, we regret to inform that Douglas Rattray passed away. The Habs have lost a loyal supporter and we have lost our oak tree, who bent but did not break.  The son of the late Harry and Emma (MacDuff) Rattray he leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years Sarah (Dollard), son Chad and partner Sharon, daughter Kelly and her son Matthew, special niece Gloria, and her family.

Dad obtained his diesel and auto mechanics certificate while living in Montreal and continued on to obtain his refrigeration ticket. He kept the fish plant in Canso operational and when the fisheries collapsed he then kept busy with his duck tape, maintaining the Canso arena.

Time spent at the camp in Cooeycoff fishing and drinking with his buddies has provided us hours of hilarious stories.

A jack of all trades, master of most.  You could count on him to build a shed, plumb and run electricity, fix your car, make a sling shot, a dogwood whistle, make a fly for fishing trout and a Wonder Woman costume. Armed with a roll of electrical tape nothing was impossible. He could  answer all your questions about birds, plants animals and the history of Hazel Hill.

We would like to thank the doctors and incredible nursing staff at our Eastern Memorial Hospital.  Your care, patience and thoughtfulness in treating Dad like he was yours is so gratefully appreciated and will never be forgotten.

There will be a graveside internment, Friday September 4th, 2pm, at the Fourth Hill Cemetery. Officiated by Vonda Card.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation to our Eastern Memorial Hospital. Raise a glass, cheer for the Habs to get that elusive cup and live your life on your own terms. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
