Sharon (Austin) Delaney

September 9, 1950 – August 18, 2026

It is with regret the family announces the passing of Sharon (Austin) Delaney of Whycocomagh at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Irene (MacKinnon) Austin.

A lifelong resident of Whycocomagh, she worked as one of the last “central” operators for MT&T in the area, as well as several childcare and waitressing stints, she was an excellent baker. Always very outgoing, she was always up for a road trip, a bingo game, a cup of Tim’s tea and a meal out; until her health would no longer let her do so.

She is survived by son, Scott (Mary) and daughter, Shannon (Brian) MacDonald; five granddaughters and great-granddaughter Marcie Irene. She was looking forward to the birth of her second great-grandchild in October.

She is also survived by her brother, Vernon, Port Hawkesbury; aunts, Annie MacKenzie, Ontario, Ingie (John) Gillis, Amherst; numerous cousins and former husband, Raymond.

The family would like to extend thanks to her friends Diane, Fred and Carmen for doing all you have done for her. Also, to Dr. Lowry and the nurses on 2E for all your compassionate care you provided.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.  A family graveside burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Sharon to a charity of your choice.
