Valerie Geraldine Pottie

February 7, 1957 -April 16, 2026

POTTIE, Valerie Geraldine- 69, St Peter’s. We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Valerie Pottie, at St Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on April 16, 2026. She was born in Toronto on February 7, 1957, to Jack and Laura (Hendrican) MacLean.

Valerie was an avid Bingo fan and could often be found enjoying a game, never shy about showing her true feelings about the caller when her number wasn’t called. She enjoyed playing darts, more for the social aspect than the competition, but still managed to get some high scores. Many laughs were had during Christmas Karaoke get togethers over the years, where she was either an active participant, or ready to go home early. She didn’t hold her tongue, and let you know exactly what she was thinking, a trait she may have inherited from her mother, Laura. Many chats were had in the Foodland bakery area, as this is where she spent a lot of her time, and used it as an opportunity to catch up with people she may not have seen in a while.

Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Nicky; daughter, Errin (George) Johnson, L’Ardoise; grandchildren, Bailey and Devin Johnson, L’Ardoise; brothers, Sandy (Maribeth) MacLean, Halifax; Danny (Charlene) MacLean, St Peter’s; sister, Cecilia (Eric) MacLean, L’Ardoise; and brother, Johnny MacLean in Evanston; nephews, Matthew (Brittany) MacLean, Dartmouth; Brandon (Rebecca) MacLean, Dartmouth; Eoin and Jamie MacLean, (Evanston); greatniece, Phoebe, and godchild, Jenny MacPhail. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Jack and Laura, and sister, Helen.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Foodland for their quick response and efforts until the ambulance arrived, the Ambulatory attendants for your continued efforts and support, and the ER staff at St Martha’s Regional Hospital.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 24 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Parlour. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 from Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial at a later date.
