Bridget 'Martina' O'Neill Obituary
Bridget “Martina Melong” O’Neill of Havre Boucher, originally from Port Felix, Nova Scotia, passed away with her son by her side on March 6th, 2026, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish, at the age of 74.
Born on May 31, 1951, Martina was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen Pellerine. She spent her childhood in her beloved homestead in Port Felix, and later with her husband, Jim, in Havre Boucher. Martina was known as a loving, honest, and loyal friend to those who became close to her. She was known around her community for her famous fudge and her skills at cards.
Martina had a passion for creating beautiful things with her hands. She was often at her sewing machine making quilts, hemming clothing, or creating crafts - she loved to create things that others could treasure, and always believed that the best quality products were the ones made by the hands of hard work. She was proud of her home and the life she was able to share with her husband Jim there.
Martina will be lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas (Kristofer). Their relationship was deeply rooted in daily check-ins and conversations that will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 42 years, Jim Melong. She is survived by her brothers Eugene (Carolyn), Ernie (Elaine), Thomas (Andrea), and Charles (Lana), nieces Danielle, Denise, step-niece Lacey, and nephews Godfrey Aidan and Dalton.
She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Ellen, twin sisters at birth, brother Godfrey Adrian, and sister Joanne Pellerine.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14th, from 9-10:45am in St. Paul’s Centre in Havre Boucher with the funeral service following 11am with Fr. Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial to take place in the spring alongside her husbands. Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Family flowers only; in lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Oncology Unit (whose nurses and doctors made an immeasurable impact on her journey with cancer and provided her much laughter and friendship), or to the family to assist with burial expenses. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
