MacKAY, Ruby Grace - Age 98, Port Hawkesbury / West Bay. It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Ruby Grace MacKay. Born in West Bay Marshes on January 1, 1928, to Hughena (Oliver) and Colin Alexander Ross. She lived in West Bay most of her life and was surrounded by lots of wonderful friends, neighbours and family. She worked hard raising her nine children.

She loved music and was a church organist for years. She also played in a senior's band. Mom made a lot of friends at the Ceilidh's she attended over the years and loved them all. Mom was also a great storyteller and poet and loved to tell jokes. Any day she had company was a good day. She loved company and a good cup of tea.

She was loved dearly and will be missed by all, especially her children; Glenda MacKay, West Bay; Ken MacKay, Oromocto, NB; Mary LaPierre, Lower Sackville; Ann Ranson, Judique; Jean (Jerome) MacDonald, Antigonish; Betty Russell, Port Hawkesbury; Carol (Drew) MacKay, Ottawa, ON; brother, Ronnie (Amelia) Ross, Port Royal; sisters-in-law, Ruby Ross, Vancouver, BC; and Vivian MacKay, River Denys; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, George James MacKay, Roy Daniel MacKay; grandsons, Dwayne MacKay and Christopher MacDonald; great-grandson, Duncan Chisholm; brothers, Elmer, Jack, George, Norman, Palmer, Calvin, Jamie and David; sisters, Betty, Ethel and Hazel.

Cremation has taken place. Visiation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, May 15th, 2026 in West Bay United Church, West Bay and from where the funeral service will take place 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16th, 2026 with Rev. Carol Joy Shatford officiating . Burial will be in West Bay Cemetery ata later date. Memorial donations may be made to West Bay United Church or West Bay Cemetery.
