Patrick Vincent Parker Obituary

Patrick Vincent Parker

Canso, NS

PARKER, Patrick Vincent age 93 passed away peacefully at home in Canso on Monday, January 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Pat was a legend in Canso. Known near and far for his kind heart and tall tales. Pat loved his card plays and spending time with family and friends (especially in his shed). He entertained many and lied to a few.

Spending over 65 years on the ocean, his fishing stories, knowledge and friends knew no bounds.

Pat will be greatly missed by his sons, Manford (Mary) Parker, Réal (Sheri) Parker and Colin (Tracy) Parker; grandchildren, Noelea (John) Gorman, Milessa (Russell) Hubley, Shane (Maria) Hodge, Shannon (Jesse) Fredson, Patrick (Nicole) Parker, Régan (Brian) Parker and Coleton (Destiny) Parker; sisters, Marian (Fred) Snow and Lorraine Walker; brother, Dennis (Fern) Parker; great-grandchildren, Melody, Arianna, Brandon, Hannah, Conner, Noah, Rylan and Mackenzie Sue; Sister-in-law Rosalee Parker; son-in-law, Steven Leitch and close family friend Vicky Parker. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and countless friends, including all his card play, shed and smelt fishing partners. Pat was predeceased by his loving wife, Nellie; daughter, Suzanne; and special friend in later life, Shirley Dollard; parents, Vincent and Sadie (O'Hearn) Parker; brothers, Sylvester (Ves), Danniel and Jimmy; sister, Agatha (Aggie) Boudreau.

Pat was a lifelong member of the Star of the Sea Parish in Canso, as well as a long[1]time member and one of the founders of the Canso Volunteer Fire Department. Pat was also a member of the Canso Legion where he spent many an hour socializing, people still speak of Pat and Nellie “cutting a rug”.

We would like to extend a huge thank-you to Dr. Milburn, Dr. Jean Marie, and Pam Myette for all the care and compassion given to both Pat and his loved ones.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9th in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso from 1–9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, Saturday, January 10th, at 11a.m. with Father Thaddeus Chikezie Orga officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Canso Branch #46. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com

“We will miss watching for his light in the shed or the flag on his buggy and there will be

many heavy hearts as Pat sails out of the harbour one last time.”
