James Donald Samson, 74, of Port Hawkesbury, NS. A beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather and friend passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Donald was born November 22, 1951, in Arichat to Vander and Alvina Samson of Little Anse, Nova Scotia.

Donald was loved by his family, friends and his many clients through his 40 + years as a Chartered Public Accountant.

Donald loved to fish, hunt and gather with his friends and family most of all. He loved to share a meal and a great game of cards.

Mom and Dad enjoyed many years camping in Whycocomagh and Whidden’s Campground in Antigonish and have made many lifelong friends.

Donald will forever be missed by his wife Rose Samson, daughters Shelly (Scott) Neil and Jessica Samson and his four grandsons, Ben Neil, Drew Harnish, Nathan Neil and Isac Harnish.

Donald left behind his siblings Ronnie Samson (Genny), Gerrard Samson (Mary Helen), Darlene Short (Harvey) Kay Samson (sister-in-law), Colleen Smith (Craig), Darren Samson (Jackie), Joann Samson (Eric) and his sister-in-law, Catherine (Francis) Landry.

His many nieces and nephews Raylene (Barry), Laurie Ann, Timmy, Leslie, Nadine (Robert), Kevin (Stacy), Heather (Jason), Natalie (Derek), Jolene (Jason), Daniel (Brittney), Gabrielle (Kourtney), Jeremy (Emma), Chris (Ryan), Claudelle and Teya (Evan) and his many great nieces and nephews.

His Aunt Loretta and Uncle Arthur (Viola) and his many “Butte” cousins.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, Vander and Alvina Samson, In-laws Wilfred and Eva May Joshua , brother Douglas Samson, brother-in-law, Derrick Samson, his nephew Shane Samson and his many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

We would like to thank the paramedic and all the staff at St Martha’s /Strait Richmond Hospitals for the care and compassion they have provided to our Dad over the years.

A memorial service will be held at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury on December 6, 2025, from 2pm to 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers our family have requested you make a donation to the local food bank in Port Hawkesbury.
