Roger William Avery

April 15, 1966 – November 5, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger William Avery, of Guysborough, Nova Scotia, on November 5, 2025, at the age of 59.

Roger was born on April 15, 1966, and spent much of his early life surrounded by the love and guidance of his family, especially his grandmother, Margaret Avery, who held a special place in his heart. He worked for many years with the Department of Natural Resources, where his appreciation for the outdoors and hands-on work found a natural fit.

An avid outdoorsman, Roger enjoyed fishing, diving, hiking, and camping. He also had a passion for horror movies, collectibles, and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a loyal friend with a great sense of humor, but above all, Roger treasured his home and family life. He loved spending time with Betty, his wife and steadfast companion, as well as with his children, grandchildren, and his loyal dog, Fozzie. His grandchildren — Jacob, Levi, and Zora, his “Little Leprechaun” — brought him endless laughter and joy.

Roger will be remembered with love by his wife Betty O’Connor; his children, Karen Pippet (Kris Kulanek), Kyle Avery, and Kenny Avery; his grandchildren, Jacob, Levi, and Zora; his mother, Dorothy Casey; stepmother, Bernice Boudreau; brothers, Trevor Boudreau (and family) and Jimmy Avery; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Bill Boudreau; stepfather, Ralph Casey; his uncle, David Avery who was like a brother to him; his half-brother, Scott Boudreau; his aunt, Beatrice Horne; and his uncle, Leonard Avery.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 1 p.m., in Communities Along the Bay Community Centre, 6202 Highway 316, Larry's River, Nova Scotia, B0H 1T0.
