John Alexander 'Sander' MacIsaac Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Alexander 'Sander' MacIsaac, 90, of Port Hawkesbury, NS on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Strait Richmond Hospital. Born on November 21, 1934, he was the son of the late John Hughie and MaryAnn (Bienvenue) MacIsaac.

Sander is survived by his three children, Sandra MacLellan, Sydney, NS, Roddie (Debbie) MacIsaac, West Kelowna, BC, Marlene (Terry) Morrison, Cleveland,NS. He was a loving grandfather to Gussie and Nicole MacLellan, Travis (Shaylee) MacIsaac, Ali (Ty) Mazzei, Nevin Morrison, and Brent (Kate) Morrison. His love extended to his 10 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers, Harold (Wilda) MacIsaac; John MacIsaac; sisters, Christena Morris; and Sylvia MacDougall. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna Marie 'Nana', and daughter, Colleen McGrath; his brothers, John R. MacIsaac; Alex MacIsaac; Archie MacIsaac; and Roddie MacIsaac; his sisters, Elizabeth MacIsaac; Sarah Ryan; Jessie MacInnis, Marie Russell and a baby in infancy.

In his early years he worked at the Petro Fina station in Port Hawkesbury, the Pulp mill, and for numerous contractors in the Strait Area. Dad ended his career working for the Town of Port Hawkesbury Recreation Department. He was an active volunteer at the Port Hawkesbury Fire Department for 23 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing bingo, cards, and reminiscing with family and friends. The tea pot was always on! His favorite outing was a trip to the Sydney Casino, where he usually came home with more money than he went with, although we never quite got the correct answer to his actual winnings. Sander loved to tease everyone and wasn't shy about making a short story - long. His mischievous manner will be missed by many.

We wish to extend special thanks to the Inverness County Home Support staff, the Strait Richmond Palliative Care team as well as the Doctors and Nurses for the compassionate care they provided to Sander and his family.

Visitation will be held on Oct 28 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will take place on Oct 29 at 11am in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Joby Augustin officiating.  Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
