Walter 'Alan' Mac Calder, Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia; formerly from Orangedale, Cape Breton, passed away suddenly on October 1, 2025, in Sackville, Nova Scotia. Alan was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, Godfather, and friend. He was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia on July 22, 1968 to the late Alexander Donald (Sandy) and late Brenda Margaret (Dulenty) MacCalder.
Alan completed his Electrical Trade at the Canso Regional Vocational School between 1986-1988. He was employed with Georgia Pacific, Big Brook, Nova Scotia. Later moving to Policella Packaging Plant in Amherst, Nova Scotia. And finally retiring from the Halifax Dockyard when he turned fifty.
Alan was lovingly referred to as “Charlie Brown” by his family. Alan enjoyed travelling, sharing many pictures of his adventures. One of his favorite places was Cuba. He had an extended family that he cherished and travelled to visit them several times per year. He craved adventure and loved simple things. Whether it was a good meal with family and friends or a moped tour through Cuba, he enjoyed every experience he had. Alan made friends easily and cared deeply for those he loved. His roots in Cape Breton were important to him. He spoke fondly of his home in Orangedale and spent many weekends and holidays with family and friends there.
Alan cherished his relationship with his nephews and his godchildren. He took that role very seriously. He never missed important milestones and was always there quietly standing in the back letting them know they were cared for and supported. He is survived by his brother, John Glenn Alexander; Orangedale,NS, his nephews; Keagan (Corrine); Sackville, NS, and Brendan (Ayla), Bedford, NS. God children, Chantal Phee, Pictou, NS., Daliah Rodriguez, Cuba, and Cathryn (Cassie) Surette, New Brunswick. And many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Glen and Nellie Dulenty, Paternal grandparents John Duncan MacCalder, Alexis (Ferguson) MacCalder and Nana Christena Mary (MacKinnon) MacCalder. Along with Several Aunts and Uncles.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. in Gillis Cove Cemetery, with Margie MacIntyre LM officiating.
