Angus Lawrence Boyd Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the Boyd and Beaton families announce that Angus Lawrence Boyd passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025 at the Strait Richmond Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Angus was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on August 23, 1949 to the late Donald and Edna (Samson) Boyd. He leaves behind his loving and caring wife, Marlene, with whom he was to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on October 12.

Left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss are his five siblings and brothers-in-law with whom he shared many special memories, Margaret Ellen MacKinnon, Sylvia French, Jack MacNeil, his twin sister Carol Anne Maybin (Don), Almeda De Amicis (Peter) and Donald, and Marlene’s three brothers and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Alice, Collie and Doug Beaton. Angus is remembered by his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He took great joy in their accomplishments and was a very proud uncle.

Angus had a gentle, loving and kind presence. He loved spending time with family and friends and sharing stories with great detail. He was proud of his Glendale and Mabou roots and enjoyed Scottish music, concerts and square dancing. He had an amazing memory for people, events and statistics. Angus had a great love of sports, especially golfing, and in his younger years he played competitive basketball and baseball. He had fond memories and great stories about playing with the Louisdale Baracos.

Angus enjoyed his teaching career in Richmond County’s elementary and high schools. He coached school sports and felt prouder than ever of his players when his AA Isle Madame District High basketball team hosted and won the provincial championship in March 1982.

During his journey on dialysis, he formed many supportive friendships for which he was forever grateful. Angus’ faith, courage, strength and unwavering determination were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Angus is now reunited with his parents Edna and Donald, his beloved sister Donna MacNeil, Marlene’s parents Collie and Jessie, sister-in-law Wendy Beaton and brothers-in-law Freeman and John Beaton, Ray MacKinnon and Kevin French.

Angus was forever grateful for the wonderful care that he received at the Strait Richmond Hospital and St. Martha’s Hospital. The family also extends their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff for their exceptional care and compassion during his illness.
