John-Michael David Kennedy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John-Michael David Kennedy, born January 16th, 2003. John-Michael passed away August 10th, 2025, at his home on Granville Street where he was born and raised in Port Hawkesbury. John-Michael was a 22 year old, young man who lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy his whole life, but he never let that stop him from living his best life. 

John-Michael was the happiest young man anyone who got to know him could agree. It was hard to be upset when John-Michael was around because he’d always try to make you laugh, he will be deeply missed. 

John-Michael is predeceased by his mother, Michelle Gale Kennedy as well as his Maternal Grandparents, Michael and Theresea Gale. He is survived by his very devoted father, John F. Kennedy or as he called him when some tough love was needed “bad dad”, who was also his care giver all his life. As well as his paternal grandparents, Robert and Elva Kennedy. He is also survived by his siblings, Katlynn (Joseph), Luckus (Hailey), Sheila, Cecilia and Robbie Kennedy as well as his nieces and nephews, Gabriel, Raelyn, Nolan, Damien, Nevaeh and the newest addition Noah. As well as many fur nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a very special family friend, Teri-Lynn MacDonald. 

John-Michael is also survived by 5 aunts and 3 uncles. He will also be missed by his cousin Zahlee who he looked up to so much. 

You could always see John-Michael driving around the wharf in his electric wheelchair, wind in his hair and a big smile on his face. If it came in red, he’d take 2. John-Michael loved everything cars and knew so much about them. He loved animals, especially his aid Dog Kinder and his emotional support cat Stanley. 

Life is going to be very dull without him. It gives us great peace to know that he is no longer suffering and is now reunited with his mom. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17th in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 5:15p.m. with Deacon Berkley Guthro officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
