Ian Douglas MacDonald Obituary

In Loving Memory of Ian Douglas MacDonald

Marble Mountain, NS

Age 64

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, Ian Douglas MacDonald, of Marble Mountain, NS, who left us at the age of 64 after a brief illness.

Ian spent many years working at Nova Scotia Paper and as a lobster fisherman on the Bras d'Or Lake. He was fortunate to call Marble Mountain "home" for most of his life and found peace and purpose in the woods and in on the water. The Mountain will not be the same without him.

Known to many as "Quiet Ian", he was a shy, gentle soul with a kind and generous nature. Those who knew him best appreciated his dry wit, infectious laugh, reluctant smirk, and loyal friendship.

Ian had a special bond with dogs, and they with him. We take comfort in knowing that, somewhere, all the dogs are dancing now that they've been reunited with him.

Ian is survived by his brother, Stuart (Trisha) of Elmsdale, NS; sisters, Fiona (Dave Dauphinee) of Marble Mountain, NS; Carole MacNeil (Bill) of Mabou, NS; Patricia MacQuarrie (Darrell) of Pleasant Hill, NS; and Helen Windeler of Alberta. He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan Charles and Marian Grace (Bunty) MacDonald; his brother, Graham Charles MacDonald; sister-in-law, Colleen (nee Ross); brother-in-law, Brian; and cherished family friend, Duncan MacMillan.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their exemplary care of Ian and the comfort they provided during his final weeks.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5 with funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. all from Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury, with Margie MacIntyre LM officiating. Private family burial will follow. Family flowers only please. If you wish to honour Ian's memory, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of your choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
