Winston Franklyn Bennett

Winston Franklyn Bennett, age 82, passed away peacefully in St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, on Friday, July 25, 2025. Born in Grand Bank, Newfoundland, Winston was the son of Phyllis (Haynes) Bennett and Rev A.E. Bennett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bernice (Feltham); daughter, Wanda Fougere, daughter Patricia Johnson (Pete), Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren: Amber Fougere, Justin Fougere (Tara MacDonald), Jack Johnson, Evan Johnson, Austin Bennett (Maria), Quinten Bennett and Rachelle Bennett, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Rick Fougere and his son, Neil Bennett.

After growing up in Newfoundland, Winston and Bernice moved to Frankville, Nova Scotia where he worked at the Heavy Water Plant as a Stationary Engineer. At its closure, he and Bernice moved to Lower Debert and purchased Elm River RV Park which they ran with their son, Neil for 32 years. After selling the park and retiring, they were so happy to move back to Frankville to be close to family and old friends. Winston loved the RV lifestyle and travelling. He enjoyed meeting new people and cherished the friendships he made at Elm River and throughout he and Bernice’s many travels to Shreveport, Louisiana and South Texas. He loved to be social and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Winston had a thirst for knowledge and passion for understanding how things worked. His mechanical skills were well known, and people claimed that If Winston couldn’t fix it, nobody could. He was an active member of AA for 42 years. His strength and perseverance have greatly influenced his children and grandchildren. Above all, Winston was a kind and thoughtful man who will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
