David Jerome Bouchie Obituary

David Jerome Bouchie (71) passed away in Canso, Nova Scotia on Thursday, June 5, 2025 surrounded by his family and their love. His wife of 49 years and love of his life, Susan was by his side until the end.

Dave was one of 11 children born to Norman and Mary (Harnish) Bouchie of Little Dover. Dave grew up surrounded by many of the things that would shape the rest of his life including boat building, carpentry and fishing.

Dave held many occupations over the years, including work at The Little Dover Boat Shop, Blue Ribbon Seafoods, Central Supplies, and countless carpentry jobs. He was always the hardest worker and the last to quit any task. Most struggled just to keep up with him. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish and a founding member of the Little Dover Volunteer Fire Dept.

Dave's paradise was "down the hut", among the islands off Little Dover. Built in 1993, the hut was his getaway every summer. A base for many weekend sailing and fishing expeditions, providing relaxation and fun for him, his wife, Susan and the next two generations of Bouchies.

His children were the love of his life, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. That deep love was only surpassed by the boundless adoration he held for his granddaughters, Madeleine and Carly, and his grandson, Simon. Words fall short of capturing the depth of his love for them.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Susan (Hunt) Bouchie. Son, Ashley (Yvette) and daughter Holly (David) and his grandchildren Madeleine Grace Bouchie, Simon Ashley Bouchie and Carly Layne Mason.

Dave is also survived by sisters Beverly (James) Henry, Canso; Genesta Munroe, Little Dover; Edie (Tommy) Keefe, Little Dover; Sheila (Frances) Rhynold, Little Dover. Brothers Ronnie (Joyce) Bouchie, Little Dover; Jimmy (Kim) Bouchie, Little Dover; Tommy (Colleen) Bouchie, Canso; Brian (Melinda) Bouchie, Canso; his three brother-in-laws, Larry, Darryl, Kevin and a special sister-in-law whom he thought of as a daughter, Tanya along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dave's world revolved around his family.

He will be remembered by his many friends who shared countless hours making memories that will last a lifetime.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Norman Bouchie, sisters, Lorraine (Bouchie) Boudreau and Anna (Bouchie) Haines and brother-in-law, Frank Munroe as well as his mother-in-law, Mable and stepfather-in-law, Kenneth Hendsbee.

Special thanks to the team at the St. Martha's Oncology Department, Palliative Care Services for Guysborough County and all the amazing Healthcare professionals who cared for Dave over the last two years.

Donations can be made to the St. Agnes Parish Hall Repair Fund or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, June 9th, 2025, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral will be held in St. Agnes Parish Hall, Little Dover at 11am on June 10, 2025, with reception to follow.
