December 12th, 1949 - April 30th, 2025
Jean Willa (Matheson) Munro, 75. - Jean passed away peacefully at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck with her family by her side. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by many. Jean was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She eventually moved to Whycocomagh and was married to her late husband Calvin Munro for 51 years. Jean faced many health issues over the years including cancer and mobility challenges, just to name a couple. She dealt with all of these challenges with an inspiring amount of strength and courage. Her strength and will to live had no bounds.
Jean was employed by the Royal Bank both full and part-time for 30 years starting at the Dutch Village Road branch in Halifax and finishing at the Whycocomagh branch. Mom took pride in looking after her family and friends. She enjoyed looking after her home inside and out with a keen eye for decorating and green thumb for gardening. Most would know Mom as a hard worker, just a part of her genetics.
Jean is survived by her 2 sons James (Andrew) of Halifax and Blair of Whycocomagh. She loved her family deeply and will always be remembered by her sons as the best “Mom” in the world. Jean is also survived by her brother Don Matheson, brother-in-laws Gordie (Isabel), Jerry (Elsie), sister-in-law Nelly (Alex) and Cathy Matheson. Jean was predeceased by her loving parents Cameron and Winnie Matheson as well as, brother Jim Matheson, brother-in-law Graham Munro in addition to her mother and father in-law Gladys and George Munro.
We would like to thank Dr. J Tribo for her dedication to our Mom over the years. We will be forever grateful. We’d also like to thank Dr. Ritter and Paulette Levin for their compassionate support during Mom’s final days. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital for their incredible service shown to Mom and her family.
There will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place under the care of Dennis Haverstocks Funeral Homes. A family graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations in Jean’s memory can be made to the Little Narrows Cemetery Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
