





Obituary of Lawrence Albert (Borden) Skinner
SKINNER (Borden), Lawrence Albert - It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence Albert (Borden) Skinner on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at the age of 74.
Lawrence was a beloved husband to Marina (Izzard) for 30 years and a devoted father to his six children, Lawrence (Linda), Guysborough; Nancy (Bob), Toronto; Jennifer, Toronto; Martin (Jenny), Antigonish; Kyle, Halifax and Tiffany (Brendon), Grand Desert. He was a cherished grandfather to eleven grandchildren, Taylor, Kali, Armani, Madison, Mackenzie, Shayla, Cheyenne, Keyira, Brooklynn, Markus and Olivia, each who brought immense pride and joy to his life.
Son-in-law to the late Ralph Izzard Sr.; brother-in-law to the late Ernie Izzard and Horatio Izzard. Brother-in-law to Ralph (Martha) Izzard.
Born in Antigonish and raised in Sunnyville, Lawrence was the son of the late Charles Edward and Florence Mae (Byard) Borden; brother to Albert, Stanley, Donnie (Margie), James (Rose), Joan, Thelma, Debbie, Gail (Bernie) and Elizabeth (Bobby).
Son to the late paternal father, Norman Sr. and Emily Borden; brother to Rita (Harris), George (Anna), Wayne (Jen), Ricky (Thelma), Anthony, Norman (Jen), Blair (Lisa), Stephanie (Justin); the late Bernie (Jordan), Paul, Beverley, Peggy, Darrell.
Son to the late maternal mother, Geneva Eileen (Skinner) and the late John Reddick; brother to Teena (Alexander), Ann, Claire, Hilton (Donna), Mike (Jean) and Gordie (Bruce); the late Shirley, John Jr., Wanda, and an infant sister.
Lawrence also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with special longtime friends, Scott and Linda Cook.
Lawrence made his home in nearby Glenkeen, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family and service to his community. A dedicated woodsman at a very young age and Truck Driver for many years, Lawrence was known for his tireless work ethic and strong sense of responsability. Lawrence then worked at the Chedabucto Investments for 45 years. Later in life, he became the proud owner of the local laundromat.
Known throughout Guysborough County for his kindness and generosity, Lawrence was always a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether is was fixing something or simply talking away the time, he made time for others and made a difference in the lives of many. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The community has lost a good man, one who gave without asking, loved without condition and lived a life of quiet strength.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sunnyville United Baptist Church and from where a Celebration of Lawrence's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 with Pastor Clara Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. A reception will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 81, Guysborough following the burial.
