Obituary of Alexander MacLennan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandy who passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 10th, 2025. Sandy was the youngest son of the late Alex and Lena (Hadley) MacLennan. Sandy was born in Little Narrows, on December 14th, 1936.
In his early years Sandy worked on the Little Narrows Ferry before moving to Sydney where he attended trade school for welding, which led to a long career working as a welder for Sydney Steel Corp. Dad had a willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Time and time again you would catch him sprawled out on the ground, a welding torch in hand pouring his heart and soul into fixing something for family or friends. Although he could not read music, he possessed an extraordinary gift where he could play any instrument he put in his hands, with piano and guitar being two of his favorites. He was a proud 55-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Dad was a man of unwavering faith whose heart overflowed with integrity with a profound sense of right and wrong.
Sandy leaves behind his devoted and cherished wife, Virginia Pearl (MacPhail) , who stood by his side for an incredible 59 years, sharing a lifelong journey filled with love and unwavering companionship; his daughter, Sherri (Allister) MacLellan and son, Scott (Angela). Grandchildren, Coady and Kayleigh and their mother Cindy Morrison. Step grandchildren, Conner and Miley and members of the MacPhail family; Sisters, Ethel (late Steve) and Eileen (late Walter); Sister-in-law Edna MacLennan. Sandy also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Besides his parents, Sandy is predeceased by his brothers, Kenny (Anne), Gordon and Jackie (Margie); by his sisters, Margie Nymark (Herbie) and Anne MacAulay (Murdock); Father and mother in law Lewis and Ella MacPhail.
The family would like to thank Dr. Crystal Todd, Kentville, Dr. Paul Murphy, Sydney, Rev. Calvin Burt, New Minas, Rev Dr Ken MacLeod, Cape Breton, Rev Bob Lyle, who provided Sandy with excellent care and friendship over the years.
