Chad Joseph Prosper
May 23, 1993 – April 4, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chad Joseph Prosper, who left us far too soon on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 31.
Born on May 23, 1993, Chad was a proud graduate of We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw School and a cherished member of his community. At school, he was known for his fluency in the Mi’kmaw language – a gift he carried with pride. Chad was also known for his warm heart, big smile, and helping hands. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to support a friend – whether it was fixing a broken-down car, wiring a stereo, or building a sturdy picnic table from scratch.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Chad was especially gifted when it came to electronics and repairs. Friends and family often joked that if it had a wire, a motor, or moving parts – Chad could fix it. Chad’s love for the outdoors ran deep. He found peace and joy in fishing, often spending hours by the water with a rod in hand and a story to tell. He was a big, friendly presence whose heart was as big as his smile.
Chad is survived by his mother, Brenda and younger brother, Oliver. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his close friends, Marc Cremo and Chance Googoo; his aunts, Elizabeth Toney, Annabella Nicholas, Harriett Nicholas, Mary Josephine Googoo, Lucille Bernard, Betty Googoo and Muriel Knockwood, all of We’koqma’q, Sarah Cope of Truro; uncle, Alexander Bernard.
He is predeceased by his father, Harvey Sr.; his brother, Harvey Jr.; and aunt and godmother, Anna Farrell; uncle and godfather, John Prosper; aunts, Alice Bernard, Mary Helen Googoo, Jean Prosper, Muriel Prosper and Bernice in infancy; uncles, Noel Michael Bernard, Jeffrey Bernard, Matthew Bernard and Howard Prosper.
Chad will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest peacefully in the arms of his ancestors.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be begin after 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the We'koqma'q Community Centre, 15 Reservation Road, Waycobah First Nation. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from Blessed St. Kateri Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah First Nation, with Fr. Joby Augustin officiating.
