Obituary of Nellie Margaret Nicholson

 

Nellie Margaret (MacDonald) Nicholson - Age 91 of Whycocomagh, Mountain Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Archibald and Bernice (Rector) MacDonald.

Nellie began her working years at the Morris Chocolate Factory in Halifax, NS before relocating to Sydney, NS, where she cared for an elderly couple. She later returned to Whycocomagh, where she worked at the Aberdeen Motel, Fair Isle Motel and provided cleaning services for homes in the community.

Her greatest joy in life was raising her two sons, Frankie (Anne Marie) Goswell, Whycocomagh and Kevin (Ellen) Goswell, Stewartdale. Nellie was a devoted mother who always tried to ensure her sons had what they needed, proudly supporting them every step of the way. She also played a vital role in raising her grandchildren, Robin (Steven) Beaton, Hammonds Plains; Tyler (Rebecca) Goswell, Judique; Justin Goswell, Halifax; Stacey (Evan) Gillis, Dartmouth; and Jessica (Terrence) MacDougall, Beaverbank; along with seven great-grandchildren. Nellie also held a special place in her heart for Blaise (Angela) MacDonald whom she considered another grandchild.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Ernie Nicholson, as well as her brothers, Bonnie and Billy MacDonald, and her great-grandson, Isaac Goswell. Her warmth, kindness, and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of Nellie in her final months. She deeply appreciated the kindness and attention she received.

Memorial donations in memory of Nellie may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.
