Obituary of Joseph Philippe Daniel Parent

PARENT, Joseph Philippe Daniel - It's with heavy hearts we share the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dan passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born on July 25, 1951, in Quebec to Henri Parent and Rita Tremblay, Dan grew up in Saint-Raymond, Quebec. He joined the R.C.M.P. in 1971, servicng 28 years in the force throughout many communities in Nova Scotia.

After retiring from the force, Dan started his his own business called Handy-Dan Services. He was a jack of all traits. There was nothing he could not do. Dan's hobbies were woodworking, gardening, music and playing cards. His woodworking projects will leave us with memories and markings of his endless talents. Having been diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2024, he faced it with tenacity and courage to the end.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geraldine; two daughters, Francine (Andy Saulnier) and April; two granddaughters, Reese and Olivia; sister, Jocelyne (Gerard Martineau); brother, Andre (Francine Tisdelle); brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Henri Parent and mother Rita Tremblay; stepfather, Amedee Cantin; brother, Jacques and grandson, Bradley German.

Dan's memory will remain in the hearts of his family , friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the team at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, VON nurses, St. Martha's Palliative Care workers and doctors for their vital contributions to Dan's homecare and support.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Joby Augustin officiating. A reception will follow the mass in the church hall.
