





Obituary of Kilmer Meagher
MEAGHER, Gerard 'Kilmer' - Age 93, passed away Monday, February 23, 2025, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston surrounded by his family.
Kilmer was born in Antigonish on June 18, 1931, to William and Alice (Carr) Meagher of Mulgrave. Kilmer is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet (MacNeil) Meagher; sons, Stephen (Dee), Phillip, Dave (Kelly); cherished grandchildren, Stephen, Kathryn (Matthew), Kathleen (Zach), Aaron; great-grandchildren, Meadow, Vera, Lane, Michael; sister-in-law, Averill Cogswell; sister, Sharon (Harold) Beals. Predeceased by brothers, Terrence (Rose), Gary (Adair), Kevin (Bobbie); sister, Moira. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Kilmer was a telegraph operator at CNR for 18 years, followed by a local business owner for several businesses including catering and seafood exporting. Kilmer was Volunteer of the Year in 2008 for the Town of Port Hawkesbury. He was an active member of the community. He contributed in many ways, including coaching baseball, being a founding member of the Strait of Canso Yacht Club, an honorary member of the Knight's of Columbus, a member of the Festival of the Strait committee, the Waterfront Development committee and the St. Joseph Church Choir for many years.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Joby Augustin officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Evergreen Club, 37 Embree St., Port Hawkesbury.
