Dear Janet and family
So sad to hear of Kilmer's passing. I have many great memories of him when I was a kid growing up in Port Hawkesbury and hanging out at Aunt Mins. He would sometimes take Averill and I for rides in his big white and black convertible with the top down. What fun. I remember him as being kind to me. He certainly contributed much of his time and energy to the town of Port Hawkesbury as a volunteer and as a family man. He will be missed. RIP Kilmer

Sending my deepest sympathies to Janet and all the family.
I have many terrific memories of Kilmer.
He once said to me , you can learn a lot about yourself and about life being a volunteer and he was a great example of that.
I will always remember fondly our afternoons on his houseboat , putting on a big feed for the tall ships crew or just being his young sidekick in general at the Yacht club back in the day. We had a lot of fun for sure.
Kilmer possessed a wealth of local knowledge and was a fine person. His love and respect for Janet were both obvious and admirable.
Kilmer had a huge influence on me as a young man with a growing family. Unquestionably the entire community benefited from him as well through his many endeavours and volunteer work.
Like Kilmer I too was once awarded by the province for volunteering and looking back at that award now I believe my volunteer work was a direct result of Kilmer's influence.
His passing is a sad day indeed.
Unfortunately I am away for work and cannot attend the service but please know you are all in my thoughts.
Rest in peace Commodore.

Kilmer and Janet had been close friends of my parents’ family since the 1950s. Kilmer affectionately called my mom “Car” (Carolena). We lived next door to Aunt Min MacNeil, and between birthday parties, gatherings at Angus Waye’s, sledding, church, and school, the Meaghers were always part of my life.
As a young boy in the 1970s, I spent countless days at the yacht club. Kilmer, who was commodore, and George Walsh ensured there was never a shortage of discussion, humor, and lively banter.
In 2008, I had the privilege of photographing Kilmer. Throughout his life, he was deeply involved in politics—a driving force both in the foreground and behind the scenes. He had an abundance of common sense, sharp judgment, and a visionary spirit. A true entrepreneur, he was ahead of his time, particularly in the aquaculture and fishing industries, though he never quite received the full recognition he deserved for his forward-thinking ideas.
More recently, Kilmer stood in support of the Fenwick MacIntosh victims, refusing to mince words while others hid from the truth. For that, I am especially grateful.
God bless Kilmer. And to his co-pilot, Janet—10,000 hugs.

I do not have a picture to share. Only the one, engraved in my memory.
It's of kelmer shuffling his way through the kitchen at the vocational school. Janet is over the grill cooking the best cheese burgers ever know. To this day, I still refer to them when I'm chatting to someone who is in the know.
Hard to believe that memory is 30+ years old.
Fly high, fly free young fella.
