Genestia 'Irene' O'Leary - February 7, 1940 ~ February 17, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Genestia Irene O'Leary, on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the age of 85 years. Irene passed peacefully holding her sister Barbara's hand.

Irene lived in Toronto for the most of her adult life, raising her two daughters, Ronalda (Randy Byrers) and Nicole (Rick Trichilo). Devoted Nanny to Carter and Olivia. Loving sister of Barbara (Michael Delorey), Silvia (Late Ed Kiley), Priscilla, Diane (Bill Mader). She will be sadly by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Evelyn May and Arthur Joseph, her siblings, Ronald (Marie), Melvin (Bernadette), James (Jenette), Terry (Anne) and Ruth (John)  and Marion. Later in life, Irene was happy to have gotten to know her son James Bailey and his adopted daughter, Violeta.

She was professionally retired as a nurse. She spent her life taking care of people, demonstrated by her care and compassion for her family and friends. She was there for you when you needed her. Her dream to retire in Queensport 'God's Country' was realized. Personally, Irene could not pass up a card play and you could find her at any game of 45 along the coast. Her Irish streak was strong by her love of fiddle music, step dancing and whiskey.

Funeral mass and interment will take place Friday, May 23rd at 1pm from St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Queensport. A gathering will follow in Boylston. The family will honour her wishes and wear something green rather than black. In lieu of flowers, she asked to light a candle instead. We welcome all to participate.
