I remember the first time that I met Herman. I was 12 when Anne and Herman started dating. Herman, Anne, myself and I believe Herman's father went to the Christmas Midnight Mass. We were singing in the choir. Well what we didn't know was that a big snow storm was going on while Mass was on. So after Mass was over off we went. We lived 5 miles down the road. If my memory is correct I believe it took us 3 hours to make it home. Every few feet Herman was getting out of the car to shovel in front of the tires so that we could go another few feet. Then my last memory of Herman was the week before he passed away. Anne and I visited him in the Inverness Hospital. It was the best visit I had with him. He was sitting up, joking, giving the nurses a hard time. He was so determined to get up and get his strength back. "I'm sure to get back to work." These stories describe Herman to a T. Determined. He worked hard all his life. Good to his wife and his boys. I will also miss his laugh. Rest in Peace
Love Susan Hickey

I always thought how awesome it was that when Herman was dating my sister Anne, that he and his brothers and their friends would play baseball with all of us much younger kids in the field in the woods by our place. It was so much fun and a testament to how caring they were. Age was set aside, it was all about having fun. And Herman carried that through his life by having fun no matter where he was. He worked hard but enjoyed it so much. Hanging with family was fun, playing cards was fun, and Herman was the one you always heard laughing. There was no question that he was a keeper and that he would look after Anne all those years. I couldn't have asked for a better brother-in-law. You will be missed.....and so will your laugh! XOXO

Herman (left of photo) was in my grade 3 class in Marydale School when this photo was taken. I recall one critical assignment for us youngsters was to keep the wood stove stoked. This was back in the days before busing and we'd walk 2 miles to & from that one room schoolhouse. Then we'd play and help out around out adjoining farms in Beauly. So his industrious nature for all those years since had that excellent foundation!

My first memory of Herman is still one of my favourites. Along with his new wife, Herman and Anne owned the dance floor at their wedding reception. Since that time, Herman has shared of himself selflessly and we are richer for having him in our lives.
Forever love; Stephen (Fran) Musial

As a brother-in-law you couldn't get any better.
Our relationship was based on silence and cigarettes.
Anytime we met up at gatherings we were the only 2 meeting up outside for a smoke. The most I could get out of him was a laugh and a cigarette. He was wise and he was Kind. Hugs to the Family ....Paula Musial

I met Herman about the same time Anne did. In Fraser's Mills, practicing tug-of-war in our back yard; playing softball without a glove; making hay on the family farm. I was thrilled to be asked by Anne and Herman to tend bar at their pre-wedding day house party (I was 13). But I really got to know Herman after that: as a brother-in-law; as a friend, as a father, and as a dedicated (hard) worker - and awesome at all four. His laugh was contagious and he loved everything and everybody around him.
I will miss you.
