Andrew “Andy” Thomas Palmer

 Age 88

Port Hawkesbury, NS

We are saddened to share that our wonderful Dad, Andy passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in the Veterans Unit at the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou, NS.

Dad is predeceased by his loving wife, Jane (Spencer); Dad is survived by his daughters, Valerie Osborne (late husband, Paul), Westville Rd.; Donna Palmer Meagher (Ernie and son Jamie) Mulgrave: Lori MacKenzie (Scott, and sons, Connor  (Stephanie), Evan (Aslihan), St. Andrews, NB; sister, Evie (Albert) Munro; brother, Jim (Theresa) Palmer; sisters-in-law, Edna Palmer and Elizabeth Palmer, and numerous nieces & nephews who all reside in Pictou County.

Dad was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Paul Osborne; his parents, Patrick and Alice (MacPherson); brothers, John (Barb), Donald, Allister; brothers-in-law, Stuart, Harold, and Jack Spencer.

Dad was a plumber by trade and worked for 70+ years. He retired in 2002, but still willing helped his customers. Dad was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his loving family. Dad was always willing to help everyone and did not want any recognition.

Dad served his community for decades by being involved in the Port Hawkesbury Figure Skating Club, the Town Recreation Committee, and Seasonal Services. Dad especially loved volunteering with the Strait Area Trails and was very honoured to have a bridge in his name. Dad was known for his love of golf, and his sense of humor in pranking his golfing buddies.

We want to thank the staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital, and the Veterans Unit for their wonderful care and compassion to Dad and our family. Dad was loved by all the staff at both facilities.

We take comfort in knowing that Mom & Dad are together again.

There will be a Celebration of Life for our parents on Friday, June 27, 2025 with a visitation at 1p.m., and a funeral service at 2 p.m., all in St. David’s United Church, Port Hastings with Sandi Irving, DLM officiating; followed by a reception in St. David’s Church Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital Healthcare Foundation, or St. David’s United Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
