We are sad to announce the sudden death of Douglas Wood (Dougie Woody) MacLean, 84 of Port Hastings which occurred recently in Sudbury on Saturday, January 18th, 2025.

Dougie was born to William Wood MacLean and Ada Jeanette Philpott on June 21st, 1940, in Malagawatch, Cape Breton. At age 15, Dougie started working with his father lumbering, then started trucking for various companies including Tidewater, NOVA Constuction then Norvon where he worked for almost 20 years before he started his own business trucking in 1985. He then retired as an owner & operator in 2005 then went back to Norvon until 2015 and throughout his years trucking, he worked a lot around the Pulp Mill doing various work.

Dougie's pastime was spent driving Fords, looking at Fords, and talking about Fords!!! When Dougie wasn’t doing that, he was working and of course liked to have the odd political debate defending the Tories. He was proud of his three sons who followed his footsteps into trucking. In 1970 he married the love of his life, Frances (Frankie) Beaton of Mabou Coal Mines, and they later had three sons. Wayne, Michael, and Keith.

He was survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Wayne (Carrie-Ann) - Melissa (Darcy) and Haily (Al) (Sudbury); Keith (Morgan), Michael (Aimee) - Jack, Rachel, Natalie, and Lachie (Ohio); Keith (Abby) -Scarlette and Stella (Sudbury). As well as great grandchildren, Landen, Callie, Rory, Blaze, Mason and Lachlan. His siblings, Jackie (Late Annie MacKinnon, Vivian) - Port Hastings, Carol (Harvey)- Maine, Diane- Port Hawkesbury, Darlene - Halifax; as well as many nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Gary (Ann) Orangedale; sister Beverly (Bob) New Hampshire, Jerome (Eileen) Halifax; also, William, Phyllis, and Mary in childhood.

Wake and Celebration of life will be held in June. Details will be published at a later date. Any donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

I see the stars; I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed, then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee”
